This Saturday is “sine die,” the end of the 2014 legislative session.  As a result, the committees are finishing their work early this week, so that any final legislation can be considered by the remaining house and, if necessary, can have sufficient time to have any differences resolved in a conference committee.

Many bills are dead, at least for this session.  Some have been approved by both houses and are on their way to review by the Governor.  One such bill of note is HB 664.  Introduced by Delegate Brink and approved by both the House and the Senate without amendment, the bill eliminates the requirement that the Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired maintain a registry of persons who are blind.  Many advocates felt that this registry was antiquated and unnecessary.
