March 16, 2015 – FAPT

The 2015 session of the Virginia General Assembly ended on February 27, 2015.  The Governor is now reviewing legislation that was approved by both Houses.  For most of the legislation that we are monitoring, he has a deadline of March 29, 2015 to either sign, veto, or make suggested changes.  If he does not act by the deadline, the legislation becomes law

The Governor is acting on some legislation prior to the deadline. For example, he has approved legislation relating to the Family Assessment and Planning Teams, funded by the Comprehensive Services Act to assist high-risk youth and their families.

HB 2083 (Peace) and SB 1041 (Hanger) passed, requiring that family assessment and planning teams have a process for parents to refer children in their care directly to the FAPT teams.  Previously, a child would need to be referred to FAPT through a service provider.  The Governor signed the bill on March 10, 2015.  The bill becomes effective July 1, 2015.
