Happy New Year to all, and welcome to “Our View of the Legislature.” Each year, the Virginia General Assembly considers hundreds of proposals to amend or add to the current law in our Commonwealth. At this site, the disAbility Law Center of Virginia will share with you our view of some of those proposals and how they might impact the lives of Virginians with disabilities and their friends, family and supporters.
The 2021 legislative session in Virginia will begin Wednesday, January 13th at noon. Under our state constitution, this session last only 30 days, but there is a chance that the lawmakers will decide to extend the time to 45 days or more.
The disAbility Law Center of Virginia’s mission is to advance independence, choice and self-determination; protect legal, human and civil rights; and eliminate abuse, neglect and discrimination of people with disabilities through zealous and uncompromising legal advocacy and representation. We are available to educate policy makers about the potential impact of legislative proposals. Please let us know of any legislative proposals or budget issues that you think we should be following. Contact us at info@dlcv.org or by calling 1-800-552-3962 or 804-225-2042.
We will post regular updates on developments in the legislature to our website, to Facebook and on Twitter …. So stay tuned!
