dLCV Amicus Curiae Program
The disAbility Law Center of Virginia’s Amicus Curiae Program is designed to promote the legal interests of individuals with disabilities by filing amicus curiae briefs in the Virginia Supreme Court, United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of the United States. The dLCV will file amicus briefs, based upon available dLCV resources, if it determines that the case presents a substantial issue in the interest of Virginians with disabilities, and the dLCV can contribute expertise or information which would not be available without our participation. The dLCV also files and joins in briefs as co-amici in cases of particular importance to Virginians with Disabilities.

To submit a request for the dLCV to participate as an amicus curiae, please complete the below request form. Please fill out the dLCV amicus request form no later than 60 days prior to the deadline of the brief. Please ensure that the counsel seeking the amicus brief completes the form. If time is short, please call dLCV at (800) 552-3962 (Toll-Free) and ask to speak to someone on the Amicus Team to explain the circumstances.
To request that dLCV join in on a brief prepared by others please contact rebecca.herbig@dlcv.org with the proposed brief to give dLCV time to review the brief.
Due to the volume of requests received, the dLCV cannot complete an amicus brief for each request. The dLCV will respond to requests within three weeks to notify the party in question of our decision to file an amicus brief.
