On July 31 and August 1 and 2, 2014, representatives from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) of the US Department of Health and Human Services will be in Richmond, Virginia to review and assess the activities of the new disAbility Law Center of Virginia (dLCV).

The dLCV is a private nonprofit organization, functioning as the Commonwealth’s protection and advocacy system since October 1, 2013. Its mission is, through zealous and effective advocacy and legal representation, to protect and advance legal, human, and civil rights of persons with disabilities, to combat and prevent abuse, neglect, and discrimination, and to promote independence, choice, and self-determination by persons with disabilities. The dLCV operates several federal programs in pursuit of its mission.  One of those is the “Protection and Advocacy for Individuals with Mental Illness” (PAIMI) program, funded by SAMSHA.

We invite you to share your thoughts with SAMSHA about the effectiveness and operation of the dLCV to assist their review.  You can send your written comments to SAMHSA by email to PAIMI@samhsa.hhs.gov or by mail to PAIMI Program Coordinator, 1 Choke Cherry Road, Room 2-1105 Rockville, MD 20857.  You may also offer public comment at the meeting of the dLCV Board of Director’s meeting on July 23, 2014 beginning at 10 a.m. or at the PAIMI Advisory Council Meeting on Saturday, August 2nd beginning at 10 a.m.  The Board and Council meetings will be held at the office of the dLCV, 1910 Byrd Avenue, Richmond, VA.  Please call 804-225-2042 for more information.
